Roofing Continues

One day while Dick was working on the roof, he heard a noise. When he looked up he saw two dogs standing on the roof watching him. The dogs had gone into the garage, up the stairs to the attic, and out onto the roof. The black wall in this picture was added after the dogs used the opening to get onto the roof. (sorry no pictures)

A square of roofing material is equal to 100 square feet ( 10 ft by 10 ft). Dick keeps telling us that a normal colonial house that he builds uses 15 squares, but this house is using 45 squares. I think the size is driven by all of the peeks on the roof and the attached garage.

Can you find the old house?

The porch is getting a roof, and some doors have arrived. Can you find the old house? The section of the old house in this picture will be the new kitchen.

Construction site on the porch

The porch has turned into a construction site. Lauren has started to make a quilt on the porch and Will has his toys there as well. I think the porch will be in use until Lauren heads back to Toronto.

Moom over Whalom

Lauren, Ryan and Will (of Will-The-Thrill) have moved into the Whalom house for the holidays. On Staurday night, when we had a clear sky and a full moon Lauren and Ryan tried their hand at long exposure night pictures. This is the view out of the porch.

Winter is here.

Linda and I sit on the enclosed porch watching the sun come up over the lake, while we have our morning coffee. The lake iced over after the storm last Friday.

Pete and Rich showed up this morning for coffee, you would think that someone would bring donuts.

Blue Roof.

The roof was covered with blue tarps before the snow storm. During the storm one of the blue tarps would blow up onto the roof and then fall back down hitting the side of the house, making a lot of noise. The tarps did a good job of keeping the snow off of the roof, so Dick can continue working on the roof without shoveling.

Snow tomorrow

It is going to snow tomorrow, so I covered the window openings with plastic. I will close up the basement tonight and Dick is covering the roof.

Roof over old Front Door

The plan is to make the roof on the old part of the house match the new roof. Dick is starting to work on the old roof today. The roof over the old front door will be removed today. Later the old front door will be replaced with a window.

Before and After

It is a long way from summer to winter. Here are pictures from the end of August and the beginning of December. The DEQ sign is still there, but that's about it.

Another view of the Decks

The snow has melted and work is moving forward on the roof and the deck. Our phone at the old house has been disconnected, and we moved food over this morning. We should be moving in any day.
