Gardening with a backhoe.

This weekend I did a little gardening. We had a number of large bushes/trees. That were encroaching on the driveway. The bushes were at least 10 feet tall and blocked the view of the street. After a discussion with the neighbor, I cut down the bushes and dug out the stumps. We are going to replace the bushes with something a little smaller.

There is still some more bushes to deal with , but it is better with the trees gone.

Teaticket repairs.

This past weekend, Linda went to the Teaticket house for her quilt weekend. I went down with her on Thursday night to get the heat and water running. We had a good meal at Salad Pizza and we went to Sam's for lunch on Friday. I left on Friday before the rest of the quilters arrived. When I left Teaticket, I took the two broken lawn mowers and a broken boat trailer.

The Boat trailer needs new wheels. I have the wheels on order and should be able to fix the trailer with out too much trouble.

Both lawn mowers needed a tune-up and other assorted parts.

Both lawn mowers now work. (the green one starts on one pull!!) I should be transporting the lawn mowers back to Teaticket some time in May. So if you are down at the Teaticket house and don't have anything to do, you should be able to mow the lawn.

What's up dock?

Last night I spend a little time in the Lunenburg town hall. I was at my hearing with the conservation commission for the installation of a dock. The way this process works is a little amazing. First I met with the building inspector, to see what kind of approvals I needed to install a dock. The building inspector sent me to talk to the conservation commission secretary. The secretary had me talk to the technical consultant for the conservation commission. The technical consultant helped me fill out a 'Request for Determination of Applicability' form. The RDA form, documents the dock that I want to install. The consultant recommended a floating or removable dock. Then back to the secretary to submit the form, hand over a $40.00 check for advertising, a $25.00 check for the application fee, and send a copy of the form to the state. The secretary then scheduled my hearing date. At the hearing I had to explain that I wanted to install a temporary doc into Lake Whalom. The conservation commission reviewed all of my paperwork, and decided that what I had proposed was not an impact to the wetlands and I could install a dock with out additional conservation commission involvement. I received a negative determination of applicability.

Now off to find a dock.

Cedar wall paper.

In one of the closets in the old house, there was cedar wallpaper. I think that this is one of many things that seemed like a good idea at the time. I believe that when the wallpaper was originally installed it was supposed to look like cedar and smell like cedar. After many years it just smells musty and looks like red wallpaper. I spent the weekend working in a small closet, stripping the wallpaper.

It's a little hard to get a good picture of the inside of a closet, but I think you can get the idea.
This is the before picture.

Here is the after. Now I will patch the walls, paint and build new shelves.

Jellie replacement.

I finished installing the new light at the basement entrance. This light came from the clearance shelf at Walmart $14.00. We think is looks better than the Jellie.

Current light project.

I am in the process of replacing a light on the side of the house near the basement entrance. I purchased this light when we needed lights for the front of the garage, the lights that we had ordered had not shown up yet. These were going to be temporay light only. I was very happy because the lights only cost $3.00 each. (don't you just love a bargin) When Dick saw the lights he just laughed. He had to let me know that the builders call these lights Jellies, becuase that look like a jelly jar. And these light are used on all of the low income rental properities because they are cheap to replace. I relpace the Jellies with new Craftsman style light, and I thought I was done with the Jellies.

The Jellie got reused when the electrician installed lights on the outside of the garage. I don't know why the Jellie got reused, but I now have a light that is more in style with the house, and as soon as I finish the mounting block, I'll put it up. Hopefully this is the last we will see of the Jellies.

View from the bedroom.

We have not been making major changes since Dick stop working on the house, because of the lack of changes the photo ops has been limited. I have included an old picture that show the view out of the bedroom. We hope to get curtains before the summer boat traffic starts.

When blogs colide.

This weekend we had our easter family party. During this get together most of the family blogers showed up. We did miss Amy, she is still lost in Thailand. But Will from the Will-the-Thrill blog was passing out candy, with his cousin Mike in the background.

Lauren (The writer of Will-the-Thrill ) is seen here with Marie from The Andkens blog. I missed getting pictures of Kerrylee, the writer of the Andkens blog.

I got two picutres of Chirstine from the I't a beginning blog, but she always had a camera in front of her face. I also missed getting a picture of Barbie from the thetheriaults blog and
Diane from the Dazzle & Baffle blog.

Rainy Day.

It has been a cold and rainy week, so far. Here is a picture of the house from across the lake. I'm going to need a higher power lens to get a good picture from this location.

Curtains, rug and picture.

We are just about done with the sewing-office-laundry-spare-bedroom room. We have the rug, new curtains and a picture on the wall.

Every time we tried to hang a picture for the last two years, Dick would knock down the wall or put a hole in the wall that we hung the picture on. I hope this one will stay for a while.

Laundry room.

We moved the washer and dryer up from the basement. I'm painting shelves and should have them done by the end of the week.
