New Basement Windows

The four basement windows in the original part of the house were in bad shape. The window were only single pane, and some of the parts of the windows were rotten. I have been trying to replace the windows since we moved in, but haven't had time. Last month I finally ordered the replacement windows.

I needed to remove the window, and the frame that goes between the window and the basement walls.

After the window opening was cleaned up, I framed the opening with pressure treated lumber and installed the new window.

The new window should make the basement warmer this winter.

Watering the Lawn

I have been trying to get the lawn to grow along the lake. I have been watering the lawn with a pump that I installed on the old dock. It took a couple of tries to get it to work. The sprinkler heads kept clogging up with debris from the lake. I had to get a sprinkler that had a big hole and no filter. The pump and sprinklers have been working for a couple of weeks, and it is about time to take it in for the winter.

The pump is under the blue bucket, on the dock.

Second Light on the basement door.

In April this year, I replaced the light on the basement door with a light that we got at Walmart. The old light was a $2.00 jelly. When Linda purchased the Walmart light she had found 2 of them and got both. I thought that I might use the second light on another door, but decided to put in up on the basement door. It is getting darker earlier, so added light at this entrance will be good.

Plants and mulch.

I got most of the mulch spread before the rain.

Weekend progress on the wall.

I made good progress over the weekend. I finished placing blocks, and got the caps installed on the wall. I filled the lower wall with dirt, and started to fill the upper wall. All I need to do now is find a bush, and mulch.

While I was building the wall, I discovered a lot of rocks. Yesterday, I took a bunch of the rocks and made a tempory set of stairs. I have been climbing up and down the banking in the dirt, for the last two years, and the stairs should make this easier.
