More art in the garage.

I added a new picture to the art collection in the garage. The picture can be seen on the left hand side of the photo below. The artwork that I placed in the garage gallery is an original 'Blue Man Group' painting. The 'Blue Man' (I think it was the short one) spit paint from his mouth onto a spinning canvas. I think the painting has good colors and an outstanding composition.

Testing the porch railing.

Dick got us a section of railing for the porch to see if we like it. The railing looks good in the picture below. The reality was a bit different.

The chair.

When we first purchased the lake house, Linda said that for Christmas she wanted a chair for the grand children. The chair was not just any chair, it had to be the same as the chair that my mother had in her kitchen. The chair that my mother had, was purchased for me when I was a baby, so the chair is over 50 years old, and has been used by 5 children, 16 grand children and we are starting on the great grand children. The chair has also been used by the adults in the family to demonstrate the width of their bottoms. (They can fit in the chair or can not). To make the task of getting the chair harder, Linda wanted the chair to fit the counter in the new kitchen. A search of the internet identified the chair as a "shaker youth chair". No one had a shaker youth chair designed for kitchen counters, so after a number of calls to shaker furniture makers, we found a person in Maine that would build us a chair. I ordered the chair in September 2004. In the summer of 2005, the chair was built, but the seat was not completed. We wanted to get a rush seat (the original chair has a rush seat), so the builder had sent the seat out to be completed. The person that was supposed to complete the seat never did, and by winter 2005, we told the builder to put a shaker seat on the chair. The chair has been living in the basement until this weekend. This weekend was the first time that Will (our grandson) got to use the chair in the new kitchen.

Floors in the sunroom.

This weekend I installed the floors in the sunroom. The floors are mahogny and will get a dark stain, before a tung oil finish. The house is starting to look finished.

More progress on the shower.

Dick will be working on the ceiling and floor of the shower today. Linda saw the design of this shower at one of the home improvement stores, and she worked with a tile store to pick the colors.

Bathroom floor.

Dick installed the bathroom floor yesterday. I'll put in the baseboard heat this weekend. All that will be left is to get the counter, order a toilet, tile the shower, paint the walls, paint the ceiling and hook up the plumbing.

The tub has arrived.

The tub arrived yesterday in Worcester. It was put in the back of my truck with a fork lift. I uncrated it in the front yard and rolled it into the house. As soon as the faucet and drain show up we can get it installed.

Finishing up the trim.

The posts are done, and most of the wood trim is in place.

Posts

Dick has started to build our posts. We will have three of them. One on each side of the front door and one between the TV room and the kitchen.
