The Walls are going up!

Dick has started to raise the walls. You can see the general shape of the house. The far left will be the bathroom, moving to the right you can see the bedroom with the half round window and then the living room. The old part of the house will contain the kitchen.

Building Lakeside Walls

Now that it has stopped raining again, Dick is working on the 1st floor walls. Since we finished the back filling of the foundation, we have had more rain than any month on record. There is mud everywhere.

One more picture of the floor installation

The floor planks fit perfectly with one inch to spare on each side wall. The will be a special grout cement placed in the seams of the planks, and then two inches of concrete will be added to the floor. When this is done, we are going to move the boats, lawn mowers, wheelbarrows, bikes, garden tools, snow blowes, weed wacker and other stuff into the new storage space.

The Garage Floor Arrives

The folks from Astro Crane had to bring the planks over to the house one at a time from the Whalom Park parking lot. The crane took down a number of branches.

Here is Dick and Brad doing all of the work. The planks fit the foundation with 1" spacing on each end.

Here is the installation crew.

Raining for a week.

There has been little activity at the lake house this week. It has just been too wet to do anything outside so Linda and I have been working on the house we are going to sell. This week Linda painted 2 bathrooms and one bedroom. Over the weekend I painted the ceiling in two bedrooms and three bathrooms. We hope to have new carpets installed in the bedrooms this week, so we started to move the bedroom stuff to our room over the garage. The room over the garage is about the same size as the 2 of the 4 rooms in the lake house, and the room over the garage is full. I don't know what we are going to do with all of the stuff when we sell the big house.

We have also started to move stuff to the lake house. A TV, 20 plastic boxes and a chair were move this week. I think that we only have 150 more trips to go.

I talked to the concrete floor folks, and the garage floor should be delivered this Friday, I hope it fits.

Our new steps.

The lot is starting to look like a construction site. Dick, the builder, says that he will not break into the old part of the house until the addition is almost done. So we are planning to move into the old part of the house shortly. Linda, Nikki and I can try to live in three rooms (bedroom, kitchen, and TV room). Then we can clean up the other house to sell.

The Addition has arrived!!

Some of the lumber for the house has arrived, along with a tempory set of stairs to the front door. The backhoe and excavator have left, but the yard by the lake is still a mess. I'm sure they will be back.

The bushes are gone!

We can see what the house looks like now. The guys with the backhoe removed all of the bushes, and the front steps yesterday. We need to use a step ladder to get into the house. The house looks a little undressed.

Why are we doing this?

With all this mess, delays, and mud, we need to remind ourselves why we are moving here. I have include a picture from our future kitchen.

The equipment showed up for picking the bushes.

The machines that will be used to backfill the foundation and remove the bushes arrived over the weekend. Kerrylee wanted to take it for a quick spin, but it was locked.
