Fireplace is done.

Dick came over and finished the tile on the fireplace. I don't think we will see Dick until next summer when we put stairs on the deck.

New additions to the art garage.

I added some new items to the art garage. Linda wanted one of the model boats displayed and Christine gave me a picture of Cape Cod. I move Lauren's Orange Abstract and the Blue Man Groups' spin art. We almost have enought art for a real showing.

Inspection 4

We passed the electrical inspection this weekend. The last remaining inspection for the house is done by the Building Inspector. I can get him in to inspect as soon as I build a fire door for the boat cave and put up some house numbers. I am storing lawn mowers, boat motors and the tractor in the boat cave, and the fire department would like a fire door on the cave. The door needs to be solid wood and 1.75 inches thick. The house numbers are required by the fire department so they can find the house. I'll include pictures when I get started.

Who came to clean?

We had a guest last night. He worked very hard to spread all of the toys that we own from one end of the house to the other.


He then helped to clean up.

Fireplace ready for more tile.

Last night I remove the rest of the brown tile in the floor in front of the fireplace. Dick will be installing the new tile today.

Inspection 3

We passed the fire inspection today! I will still need to add 3 inch house number to the front of the house, and a sign at the end of the driveway. I am going to need a 20 minute fire door on the boat cave. I also have a broken smoke detector, but that smoke detector was not required.

Next is the electrical inspection.

Tile on the fireplace.

Dick has started to put tile on the front of the fireplace. We had enought tile to do the hearth as well.

The tile is attached to the fireplace and laid on the hearth, but we wanted the new tile to be set into the floor like the old tile was.

You can see how I have started to remove the old tile so we can set the new tile into the floor.

We will call back Dick when all of the old tile is gone.

Inspections 2

The new smoke detectors have been installed and the fire department is coming tomorrow
to complete the inspection. The fire inspector just mentioned today that we may need a fire proof door installed on the boat cave, if we keep lawn mowers and tractors in the cave. I need to ask the building inspector about that.

The electrical inspect came last weekend, and we failed the electrical inspection. We needed a light on the outside of every door in the house. So the electrician is coming to day to install lights outside the basement doors and the doors to the deck. Then we can get the electrical inspector back.

Inspections

We are finishing up the house. The final step is to close the building permit. Last week we I had the fire department and the plumbing inspector in to do their final inspections. The plumbing inspection passed, but the fire department inspection failed. We did such a large addition that we need three more smoke detectors. The electrician is coming in on Wednesday to install the additional smoke detectors, and then we can get the fire department back in and also get the electrical inspection done.

When the electrical, plumbing and fire department are done, then the building inspector will come out to inspect the rest of the building.

Hiking last Sunday 1/7/07

Last weekend was so nice outside that we went for a hike. Three couples went up Mount Watatic on Sunday morning for Mamosas. (left over new years eve champagne and orange juice.) I took a nap in the afternoon.

The Murphy Bed

The murphy is installed and functional. We had a little problem with the size of the door opening, but that was corrected last week.
